Shopping for new clothes can be difficult at the best of times, let alone after your body has undergone changes. Whether it’s from weight loss, weight gain, or even pregnancy, your body is likely to change shape several times throughout your lifetime. If you’ve been following a weight loss plan for some time, you probably have started to notice your body change shape. Your bodyweight may now be distributed differently, and it can be hard to adjust to – especially when it comes to your wardrobe and what to wear.

Additionally, if you start to incorporate light exercise into your day to help you tone up after you’ve completed your weight loss diet plan, your body may undergo even more changes.

To help you navigate through the changes, we’ve put together our top tips on how to dress for your body type when following a weight loss plan.

4 Tips on How to Dress for Your Changing Body1. Don’t Wait to Change Your Wardrobe

We know that it can be tempting to wait until you reach your goal weight before you buy new clothes. However, during any weight loss journey, there will be a period where you are “in between” body shapes, but this doesn’t mean that you can’t dress for the present!

Instead of continuing to wear clothes that are baggy and often unflattering, buy a few staple pieces for the way your body looks right now. It’s a great way to keep track of your changing body and learn which parts you love the most.

Dressing for your body type in the present moment will also help you to look and feel confident throughout your weight loss journey, giving you the motivation and momentum to continue shedding the pounds to reach your goals.

2. Study Your Body Shape

During your weight loss journey, you should be proud of whatever progress you make, regardless of whether it is big or small. When you look in the mirror at the start of your journey, you may not appreciate or like seeing the way your body changes. But it’s important to think back to the reasons why you started your weight loss journey in the first place and celebrate any and all of your wins.

Take the time to assess your body shape in the mirror and pinpoint key areas you love. These are the areas that you’ll want to keep in mind when shopping for your new weight loss wardrobe, so that you accentuate your favourite parts.

When trying on new clothes, don’t be disheartened if an item of clothing doesn’t suit you – there are so many different body shapes and we’re all unique, it would be impossible for all clothes to suit everyone!

3. Take Note of Where Your Clothes Don’t Fit

Trying on the clothes that you wore at the start of your weight loss journey will give you a great indication of where your body has changed shape the most. Maybe your waistband has become looser, your sleeves are baggier, or your jeans are looser on the leg.

When shopping for new clothes after weight loss, remember to take note of the areas that have changed the most, to make sure they now fit correctly and feel comfortable.

Taking before and after photos of your weight loss progress will come in handy in helping you monitor your changing body shape. We suggest you wear the same outfit for your before and after photos so that you can pinpoint where your clothes are hanging differently and learn to adjust to your new body shape quicker.

4. Love Your Body

We know this is easier said than done but take a step back and admire what your body is capable of. It has supported you through a major life change and helped you through your weight loss journey – and will continue to do so until you reach your goals.

Using the tips above, you’ll gradually adjust to your new body type and changes as they happen, learning to love your body along the way.

Treat your body with the kindness it deserves by dressing in clothes you like. When you’re shopping for weight loss clothes, don’t be afraid to try a new colour or style you’ve loved on other people. Once you’ve found clothes you like, you’ll find that you have a spring in your step and a boost of confidence dressing for your body just the way it is.

5. Maintain Your Weight Loss

Put a plan in place to help you maintain the weight you’ve lost after following a weight loss plan. After all, you don’t want to undo all your hard work!

Use your newfound confidence to help keep you motivated to maintain your weight loss progress.

Consider continuing your weight-loss journey with the right nutritional support. Make sure to protect your gut, lose fat (not muscle), stay hydrated, take your micronutrients, and support your skin and hair for optimal results.
